Chalk Mountain Paint #49

By no means am I saying that I am some kind of expert of chalk paint, nor have I used all the chalk paints on the market. And, wow, there sure are a lot of different brands of chalk paint on the market today! So much to choose from and I am always excited to try any chalk paint I get my hands on. With that being said, I still have only one favorite. My all time favorite brand chalk paint is made by Chalk Mountain Supply. They are a small business, family owned and operated based out of California. They always add a special small business touch from the personalized note in every package to the way they respond to any and all of my questions so quickly!

As for the paint🤩!! There are over fifty colors to chose from, the consistency is perfect for brushing, it levels really well, a little goes a long way, the coverage is amazing, the finish is smooth, and the best part, it’s affordable!!!

When painting with chalk paint, PREP IS EVERYTHING! First, you will want to clean extremely well. Otherwise the dirt will just grind into the wood when sanding. Once cleaned down really well then scuff sand with 220 grit sanding sponge until the surface is smooth. Then clean again. If you are painting with a white or light color I recommend priming with a stain blocking primer. Once I finally get to paint I will dampen my brush with a few sprays of water, making the paint brush more smoothly. I usually paint three to five coats depending how light the paint color is. I lightly sand between coats with a 320 grit sanding sponge. After the last coat is sanded I will have the opportunity to distress. Preferably only on the details and edges. I’ll wipe down piece thoroughly of any sanding dust using tack cloth.(sometimes I use a swiffer duster too)

Time for top coat! The forbidden question....”poly or wax”? You tell me what’s your favored choice?
